Currumbin Ironman Ben Carberry has been ruled out of the opening rounds of the 2020/21 Nutri-Grain IronMan Series due to an ongoing wrist injury that took place in December 2020.

Carberry, 26, suffered the unfortunate injury ahead of the original opening rounds of the Nutri-Grain Series but took the opportunity and time to let his wrist mend with the postponement of the Nutri-Grain Series to February 2021.

Unfortunately, the injury has still not healed fully but Carberry has been replaced by Clubmate, Jackson Maynard for the first weekend of the rescheduled Nutri-Grain Series.

“I’m extremely disappointed not to be racing for the first weekend of the series because of injury,” Carberry said.

“My focus now turns to getting myself healthy again and back to racing for round four and onwards for the rest of the series.”

Maynard, 28, a regular in the Nutri-Grain Series for many years, missed the series qualification event at Kingscliff late in November 2020 due to illness and was disappointed to have missed the 2021/21 Nutri-Grain Series, but jumped at the chance to take the place of his Club-mate.

“First and foremost, I’m absolutely gutted for Benny,” Maynard said of his Club-mate Carberry.

“I know how hard he’s trained and his races leading up to the series have been great and it would’ve been exciting to watch him race and for Currumbin to see how he would’ve gone this year.

“For myself, I’m over the moon. I’ll take every opportunity I can get with both hands and I’m really excited to be racing next weekend.”

Rounds one, two and three of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series kick off next weekend at Kingscliff from Friday to Sunday 12-14 February.
