After a last place finish two weeks earlier, Luke Cuff has kept his Nutri-Grain IronMan Series chances alive taking first place in today’s round three super sprint Ironman battle in Bulli.

The Gold Coast Ironman produced three consistent races to finish on top of the podium ahead of Manly’s Kendrick Louis and fellow Gold Coast Ironman Tanyn Lyndon.

The win catapults Cuff to 15th place to keep his Nutri-Grain Series chances alive. While Matt Poole maintains top spot ahead of Louis and Coolangatta Gold champion Matt Bevilacqua.

Cuff last year was struck with a mystery illness which saw him in and out of hospital for six weeks and ruled out of the remainder of the Nutri-Grain IronMan Series.

With a new approach and outlook on life, Cuff was determined to make the most of his wildcard entry for this year’s Series.

“That was unreal! The conditions were throwing up everything today, a few waves, heaps of wind… with some hustle and bustle going on around the cans,” Cuff said.

“At the end of the day I came through (and) finding myself more at the front than the back and just had to keep pushing.

“I was really confident leading into the last round so to come out with a bad result for me was really frustrating and I had to go back to the drawing board and iron out those mistakes.

“To work through that and still trust yourself and the process and come out with a good result today, it means the world,” he said.

With only 13 points separating the top six Ironmen, there is still plenty to play for with two rounds in the Series to go.
