Unstoppable Ali Day again blitzed the field to cement his spot on top of the Nutri-Grain IronMan Series ladder, after winning the first three rounds.

Day’s comeback is nothing short of sensational, setting the pace for his rivals and showing no signs of being side lined for almost two years.

The real battle came in the minor places, with the new era of Ironmen in Jy Timperley, Jackson Borg, Joe Collins, Cory Taylor and Zach Morris, the big movers this weekend.

Heading into today’s final race, Day took a 13 second lead in the opening ski leg extending that lead in the swim to open the gap to 24 seconds.  He led comfortably throughout the final board leg, his pure joy to be back racing evident as he crossed the line in first place again.

“I have had over 600 days to really reflect and improve areas that were weaknesses for me and work on my strengths as well, a lot of it has to do with my mindset and the work I have done behind the scene on that,” Day said.

“It was a mindset battle in the last race – you get to the third race and everyone is hurting a bit. I was lucky, I was at the front of the first two races so I could slow down a bit and conserve some energy.

“I am really proud of the way I have handled the last three days, but it’s not over yet, we’re only half way through.

“It definitely is a challenging series, I have never felt like this before and I am looking forward to getting back on the beach again in a couple of weeks, and getting started,” he said.

After being knocked off his ski during the opening leg, Jy Timperley came from behind to claim second place, with Newport’s Zach Morris rounding out the podium finishing third in a sprint finish with Timperley.

At the halfway point of the series, the battle for the crown is certainly on. Even though Day has taken out all three rounds, young guns Jy Timperley, Jackson Borg and Joe Collins are all less than 10 points behind the leader.

The Nutri-Grain Ironman & Ironwoman Series will return from 26-28 February for rounds four – six which will also feature the final on Sunday 28 February.
