Final Spots to be Decided at Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series Trial This Weekend

More than 145 athletes will line up for the qualifying round of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series this weekend 18-19 December at Tugun SLSC on the Gold Coast.

Athletes will battle it out for the 14 remaining spots on offer (seven men and seven women) as part of the six-round series where they will compete at the iconic North Bondi Beach in Sydney and later at Kurrawa on the Gold Coast.

There’s no shortage of talent on offer with nine males and eight females returning from the 2020/21 Series to earn their place in 2021/22 but with limited spots on offer the racing will be make or break for these athletes.

Headlining those seeking qualification are three time Series champion Courtney Hancock (Surfers Paradise) fresh of a record breaking fourth Coolangatta Gold, another former Series champion Brielle Cooper (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park), dual Olympian (kayak) Aly Bull (Alexandra Headland) and former Series participant Tara Coleman (Maroubra) who is seeking to return to the Series (last competed in 2017) after lay-off with injury.

In the men’s competition, 2019/20 Series champion Kendrick Louis (Manly) missed last year’s Series due to injury and therefore needs to qualify this weekend along with last year’s Series competitors Ben Carberry (Currumbin), TJ Hendy (Surfers Paradise) and Coolangatta Gold short Course champion Finn Askew (Surfers Paradise).

After three rounds on Saturday, the top 20 male and 20 female athletes will advance through to Sunday’s finals.

On Sunday, the top ranked seven male and seven female athletes will qualify for their spot in the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series.

After this weekend’s competition there will still be four spots on offer as Wild Card qualifiers, two male and two female.
