Round Five – IronWomen The Specialist

Ironwoman Georgia Miller has claimed victory in round five of the Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series, beating Lana Rogers in a final head to head run up the beach.

Moving into the final Ironwoman race of the day, Miller and Rogers hadn’t won any of the individual races – instead adopting a calculated approach that saw them conserve energy for the last race.

There was nothing separating the pair, as they both jagged a wave into the shore of the final ski leg, Miller showing her experience picking the right line back to the beach to put her in the ideal spot to race to the finish line.

Round Five – IronMen The Specialist

Nutri-Grain Ironman champion Ali Day is on the verge of making Series history, today claiming his fifth consecutive win to remain undefeated.

Paying attention to the field, and not trying to overpower it, Day cruised through the individual races but consistently placed in the top five, ensuring he was never out of contention.

He found himself in the familiar poll position heading into the final Ironman. Bevilacqua managed to get on Day’s wash in the final board leg, the pair opening up a handy lead heading into the swim.

But Day stamped his dominance to extend his lead in the swim leg pulling away from Bevilacqua and in the final ski leg making no mistakes to again be first to greet the winning tape.

In the battle for the minor placings, BMD Northcliffe’s Matt Bevilacqua took second place with a tight run up the beach seeing Jy Timperley cross for his fifth podium finish.

Taylor was in fifth place in the second leg (board) and caught a wave to by-pass the race leaders and take the lead heading into the final ski leg where he held on for a comfortable victory.

Derbyshire, 17, finished second in the third and final race which was won by Manly’s Piper Harrison. The second place finish, ahead of Swansea-Belmont’s Bella Williams in third, was enough to secure the overall victory for Derbyshire, who was equal first with Williams heading into today’s final round.
