The 2019/20 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series is fast approaching and is set to be one of the most exiting in many years.

Surf life Saving Australia (SLSA) is proud to be delivering the  Nutri-Grain Series “in-house”, ensuring this great event has the backing of SLSA’s surf sport delivery experience .

A number of exciting initiatives have been instigated for this coming summer including:

  • The Coolangatta Gold as a full point scoring round of the series.
  • Each round of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series, apart from the Coolangatta Gold, will be televised live, on Fox Sports. In addition, production values will be better than ever, with additional cameras, high-profile commentators, athlete profiles, in program segments and first-class graphics.
  • The launch of the Super Surf Teams League, where each of the states nominates its own teams to compete in a national teams’ challenge over an M shaped course in the Olympic format.
  • The inaugural “Nutri-Grain Iron X” race to be held on the Sunshine Coast in January. This event will incorporate innovative and exciting new race elements, including SUP racing, underwater swimming and challenging beach obstacles into the traditional Iron legs of swimming, board and ski paddling and beach running.

This new race format is the brainchild of former Australian board paddling champion and Nitro Circus Live founder Mike Porra, who has been contracted by SLSA to advise on its elite sport program and to conduct and manage the new Nutri-Grain Series.

SLSA CEO Adam Weir said “we are fully committed to developing the elite sports program this summer and as the governing body we are pleased to be taking the leadership position to drive the sport forward. Mike has been brought on board to help us do just that, giving us the benefit of his experience delivering successful global sports entertainment products and challenging us to consider new ways of doing things.”

“I am really excited to be back working in surf lifesaving sport. The time is right to work with the movement to rejuvenate the sport of Ironman and Ironwoman racing.

The athletes are better than ever, their skills in the surf are remarkable, and with the addition of Iron X to the family of events, with innovative new elements, the attention of Australia’s sporting media and the general public is sure to be focused on the Nutri-Grain IronMen and IronWomen this season,” Mike Porra said.

The Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series kicks off with the Coolangatta Gold from Coolangatta Beach on the Gold Coast on 13 October 2019.
