Lily O’Sullivan hails from the small town of Casuarina on the NSW North Coast. Moving from Tugun SLSC, to Cudgen Headland, and finally to Burleigh Heads/Mowbray Park, O’Sullivan now makes her Nutri-Grain Iron Series debut after an inspired performance in the 2021/22 Trial Round.  Just 17 years old, she will have to battle not only the toughest athletes in the world, but also her year 12 education.

Lily, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?

I started as a green cap in under 6s at Tugun SLSC as both my parents did nippers when they were younger and they thought I would also have an interest in it.

Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?

Courtney Hancock, she comes from a small NSW town like me and I think her sacrifices and dedication to the sport is super inspiring.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

Michael King – “Consistency is the key to success”

Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?

Consistency is the key to success. Although you may have to sacrifice a lot of social fun, it always pays off in the end.

What do you think about during a race?

All I think about is the process not the outcome. I think about where I need to go and what I need to do to get there.

Lily, what has been a high in your IronWoman journey?

Would have to be winning a triple gold in my first ever Aussies in 2018!

Do you have any race day superstitions?

A low pony tale, with a club coloured ribbon, or getting my nails done in club colours.

Do you have a secret talent?

I can walk a long distance on my hands.
