Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman & Pathway Series Dates Set for 2021/22 Season

Surf Life Saving Australia in conjunction with major sponsor Kellogg Australia is excited to announce the upcoming dates of the 2021/22 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series, Nutri-Grain Next-Gen and Super Surf Teams League competitions.

The Nutri-Grain Series now in its 38th year, will take place over six rounds in January and February involving the top 40 athletes in the country. Headlined by last year’s winners, Ali Day (Surfers Paradise) and Lana Rogers (Alexandra Headland), the trial for the final places in the men’s and women’s event will be held in Tugun, QLD in December.

For the first time in 11 years, the Nutri-Grain Series will make its way back to the sands of Bondi Beach, NSW, with the first three rounds taking place at North Bondi from (January 14-16, 2022) and rounds four to six scheduled to take place at Kurrawa on the Gold Coast, QLD (February 4-6, 2022).

With an excess of $220,000 prize money on the line and split evenly between the men’s and women’s competition, the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman competition will also be broadcast live on free to air television around the country via the Nine Network. The broadcast will also feature a new look commentary team, including former Ironwoman Candice Warner.

Dan Bitti, Senior Marketing Manager, Kellogg Australia said: “Nutri-Grain is incredibly proud of continuing our long term support of this iconic sport and these unstoppable athletes as they enter the 2021/22 Nutri-Grain Series. The sport has been going from strength to strength, and both Nutri-Grain and the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series embodies those shared values of strength, courage and determination, encouraging Aussies to be the best they can be, which sees us continue this long standing partnership of the sport and with SLSA.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Brent Williams said: “Nine are excited to again be partnering with Surf Life Saving Australia for the summer. The Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series combined with the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships proved popular with our viewers and we are pleased to continue our support of one of this country’s most iconic and long running community-based sporting events”.

The competition this year sees the top 10 place getters from last season (see below) automatically qualify for this season, and for the first time, the winners from the inaugural Nutri-Grain Next-Gen (U19) competition held last season, Kye Taylor (Swansea-Belmont) and Lucy Derbyshire (Northcliffe), take their place in the Nutri-Grain Series, together with seven places in each competition determined from the Trial in December, plus two wild cards.

Establishing pathways for future generations is a key priority for Surf Life Saving Australia with the Nutri-Grain Next-Gen and Super Surf Teams League set to run as curtain raisers to the elite Nutri-Grain Series.

The Nutri-Grain Next-Gen competition returns after a successful first year where the country’s U19 rising stars will battle it out across the same course as the senior competitors in conjunction with the final three rounds and weekend of racing in Queensland.

The Super Surf Teams League involving over 100 competitors will also make a welcome return for its second season in conjunction with the opening three rounds of the competition in New South Wales, noting that the impacts of COVID-19 made it impossible to run last season.

The Super Surf Teams League involves 13 Teams from across the country competing in a range of surf lifesaving disciplines including board, swim, ski and beach events.

“We are delighted to be able to announce the dates for our key sporting events, headlined by the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series,” said SLSA National Sport Manager Wayne Druery.

“The event showcases the top 40 athletes in the country and to be able to have our U19’s and Super Surf Teams League athletes compete in the same arena will no doubt inspire the next generation.

“We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in consideration of the 2021/22 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series, Nutri-Grain Next-Gen and Super Surf Team League and should circumstances require any change or adjustment, it will be communicated accordingly.”
