Surf Life Saving Australia has today announced that rounds three and four of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series that was due to be held at North Cronulla will shift further North to Wanda SLSC.

Due to severe erosion from large storms throughout 2020, causing loss of depth of sand on North Cronulla, the beach is no longer capable of supporting the size or scale of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman at North Cronulla.

Despite some improvements, the sheer amount of sand lost means that it is unlikely that it will improve enough and in time to be suitable for rounds three and four in January.

SLSA National Sport Manager Wayne Druery said that it was unfortunate to have to move from North Cronulla but is confident that they have found a great replacement in Wanda SLSC, only minutes away and still in the Cronulla Shire.

“The North Cronulla beach is a great location to hold an event with it’s natural style amphitheatre that provides incredible views on the action/racing.

“However due to some severe beach erosion at North Cronulla that has seen little improvement we can no longer feasibly hold an event or be capable of the beach set up for out event.

“We have found a great replacement in Wanda SLSC, just north of Cronulla who recently held the Coolangatta Gold at Bate Bay and have a great beach, club and set up. We are thankful to both North Cronulla and Wanda clubs for their adaptability and support.”

Wanda SLSC will now host rounds three and four of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series across the weekend of 16-17 January 2021.

All rounds of the Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series will be broadcast LIVE and FREE of Channel 9.
