Bio

Britney Pierce has been racing since she was six years old. Tired of watching her older sister having fun at nippers, Pierce joined Wanda SLSC and has not stopped since. Pierce made her Nutri-Grain Iron Series debut during the 2019/2020 competition which saw her place 16th and needing to requalify. However, she had her appendix removed the week before the 2020/21 Trial and ultimately missed out on qualifying. It’s a different story this year though, as after a strong Trial Pierce is back in the Nutri-Grain Iron Series and keen to cement her place among the elite.

Britney, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?

5 years old. I had watched my sister doing it as she is 3 years older.

Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?

Nathan Smith and Hayden Allum. I was given their rashies when they were racing and now I’m lucky enough that they are my coaches.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

Rip In – I get told this before every race by Nathan smith and Nathan Steiner.

Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?

To keep trying even if you don’t get the results you want the first time.

What do you think about on the start line?

I do big breaths and think about the first 10 metres.

What do you think about during a race?

Trying to get down any bump or where is the best place to position myself in the pack.

Britney, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?

High: Making the Nutri-Grain Iron Series in 2019/2020.

Low: Missing out on the 2020/21 Trial Round

Do you have any race day superstitions?

I hate being late to racing and I have to have a particular asthma puffer.
