Bio
There is little Courtney Hancock hasn’t achieved in her 15 year long IronWoman career, with countless podium finishes and three Champion titles next to her name. Originally from Sawtell Surf Life Saving Club on NSW’s North Coast, Hancock has made the Gold Coast her home after moving at age 18 with her sister Bonnie. Now competing professionally for Surfers Paradise SLSC, Hancock has also claimed three Coolangatta Gold victories and two Australian Ironwoman titles.
Courtney, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
5 years old.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Karla Gilbert. Strong, beautiful and kind.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Do what you love.
Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?
Always dream big and believe in yourself.
What do you think about on the start line?
How much I love the ocean.
What do you think about during a race?
As less as possible… I try to enjoy every moment out there. As every chance I get to race I feel blessed.
Courtney, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?
I am lucky that I haven’t had too many lows, I have broken my foot twice on my ski and the recovery from this took its time.
The highs I have been so lucky to have had so many. The friends I have made, the opportunities I have been given, being a Nutri-Grain IronWoman has given me such a beautiful life and I am forever grateful.
What is your go-to meal before a carnival?
