Bio

Jackson Maynard is a 4th generation member of Currumbin SLSC. From following his grandfather around the beach as a child to winning his first Ironman state title at just 10 years old, Maynard holds a life long love for the ocean and the Surf Life Saving way of life. When he was 19, Maynard was diagnosed with Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome as well as arterial fibrillation. He underwent surgery and was out of action for awhile, but that only fueled his drive for surf sport excellence further.

Jackson, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?

I started when I was 6 years old at Currumbin SLSC.

Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?

My idols growing up where Zane Holmes and Joel Parkinson. I was amazed by their skills in the water, Zane in surf sports and Joel’s elite level surfing.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

The person having the most fun is the most dangerous.

Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?

You can only do this sport for so long, so enjoy it and give it everything you’ve got.

What do you think about on the starting line?

Get away clean and rip in!

What do you think about during a race?

I’m focused on getting to the front.

Jackson, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?

High: Qualifying for the series in 2013 as well as finishing 3rd in the open Ironman at the Australian Titles.

Low: Not being able to compete after my surgeries. Looking back though they only made me want to achieve more!

Who is your biggest competition in the 2020/21 Nutri-Grain Series?

Hayden White. We used to both be at Currumbin and I have seen what he is capable of!
