Bio
Maddy Dunn has been a mainstay at BMD Northcliffe for going on nine years no, and has been a Nutri-Grain IronWoman for longer. Hailing from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Dunn spent her early years as a nipper at Kawana SLSC. She has since has moved on to elite surf sport competition, claiming podium finishes and gold medals in the Australian Board Rescue and Swim Teams races. But it’s the Nutri-Grain Iron Series that hold her heart, with Dunn loving testing herself against the 20 best IronWomen in the world.
Maddy, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
I was 7 years old when I started surf lifesaving because I grew up near the ocean and loved it.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
My hero was Bethany Hamilton, she is such an inspiration to women and sport and can prove anything is possible.
In Surf Life Saving I’d say it was Krystal Smith. She was such a great competitor and was never scared to take on the big surf and challenge herself.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Never give up.
Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?
It’s not whether you get knocked down it’s whether you get up. Whatever happens always wear a smile.
What do you think about on the start line?
I think about what to do, not the result.
Maddy, who is your biggest compeition in the 2020/21 Iron Series?
Every girl that has their foot on the line and in the ocean.
Do you have any race day superstitions?
I eat steak and vegetables the night before every race.
How do you relax away from competition?
I love to go surfing, hanging with friends and family, and playing with my puppy.
