Bio
Tiarnee Massie may possess a famous last name, but the niece of former Iron athlete Ashley Massie is forging her own path through the surf. With some impressive feats on her record already, including a bevy of Australian titles and three Australian Lifesaving Team call-ups, Massie has already made some waves. When she is not taking her body to it’s limits, Massie juggles working as a dental assistant.
Tiarnee, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
I started in green caps and have been doing it ever since. I love this sport so much and could not imagine myself doing anything else.
Who was your hero growing up in surf lifesaving?
My hero has always been Shannon Ecskstein and in later years, Ali Day. Ali is not just an incredible athlete, but an incredible person, and I aspire to be like that.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Focus on the process, not the outcome.
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?
Just never give up, keep putting in the work because one day it will pay off. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Do you have any race day superstitions?
Way too many to count.
Tiarnee, what has been a high and low in your surf sports journey?
High: 5th overall in my debut Iron Series.
Low: Every disappointment has been a lesson that I have l taken into my next race.
What do you think about on the start line?
I think about staying relaxed and just enjoying it.
What do you think about during a race?
My que words!
