Bio
Growing up in Sunrise Beach, Campbell Asher spent most of his time surfing. With a dream of becoming a professional surfer one day, Asher made the pivot to surf sports, and found lots of success in his home state of Victoria. In 2022, Asher took out the U17 and Open Ironman races at the Victoria State Championships, becoming the youngest Open Ironman in State history. He then made the move north to the Sunshine Coast, and under the tutelage of Jack Hansen at Alexandra Headland SLSC, made the Australian Final in the U19 Ironman before qualifying for the 2025/26 Shaw and Partners Iron Series.
Campbell, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?
I was 7 years old when I joined nippers at Ocean Grove. As the youngest sibling of three, I did as all do and followed my older siblings and did the same as they did.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Harriet Brown.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Stillness is the key.
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?
Keep turning up. There is a version of you out there, who has been to every session, trained at 100% and bettered themself at every chance – outwork them.
Do you have any race day superstitions?
I like to take my mind off SLS, so surfing or playing golf is common. Otherwise, reels, reels, reels.
Campbell, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?
The low point was probably despite training my heart out day in day out, I just wasn’t having the races or results I knew I was capable of. Absolutely the high point has been turning the corner and making the Shaw and Partners Iron Series.
What do you think about during a race?
I repeat the words present, precise, and power if I find myself thinking too far ahead or away from the race. These three words help me to stay in the moment and focus on everything I do.
Do you have a secret talent?
I’m a good cook.
