Bio

Growing up in Coolum, Sunshine Coast local Cooper Williams again makes his return to the Shaw and Partners Iron Series. Originally joining Nippers because his brother Bailey did it, Williams now has an Australian Gold Medal to his name, taking out the Open Male Surf Race on his home stretch of beach.  When he’s not training, he works full-time as a carpenter, and is an avid Brisbane Broncos fan.

Cooper, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?

I got into nippers at the age of 6 because my brother Bailey did it.

Who was your hero growing up in surf lifesaving?

Steve Pullen

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?

Enjoy being out in the surf, but don’t miss swim training.

What do you think about on the starting line?

How much this is going to hurt and executing the start.

Cooper, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?

High has been getting on the podium in an Iron Series race.

Low was getting lapped in an endurance race by Ali in on of my first Iron Series but I look back on it now as a turning point.

What is your go to meal the night before a race?

A nice steak and chips.

What do you think about during a race?

How much pain I’m in.
