Bio
Born and raised in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Naomi Scott developed a passion for surf lifesaving at a very young age. She began with nippers in under-7s and has been enjoying herself in the ocean ever since. A standout moment came in the 2017 Elite IronWoman Series, where she not only qualified as a 17-year-old but also won the third round. Scott is now coming off her most successful season yet in 2024/25, when she claimed the World Ironwoman title, Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Title which included winning the Manly and Northcliffe rounds, and finished her season winning the Open Australian Board Race title. Outside of her intense training schedule, Naomi has graduated from The University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Commerce, and is now pursuing a career in healthcare. She is currently studying an accelerated Bachelor of Paramedicine degree. She enjoys pottery, cooking, and reading to unwind, and is a very big Swiftie.
Naomi, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
U7s, thanks to my brother. When his friends needed a fourth teammate for their swim team at Queensie SLSC, I was signed up too, and I instantly fell in love with the surf lifestyle. My favourite thing about it was that everyone had their names written on their caps!
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
I had multiple source of inspiration growing up in Surf Life Saving. I looked up to Courtney Hancock, Naomi Flood, Liz Plummer’s and Krystl Smith in the women’s field and Ali Day, Shannon Eckstein and Ky Hurst in the men’s.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
“Stay in the moment”
Being present is so important, not just in racing but in life. Remember to take a moment to stop and smell the roses!
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron athletes?
Enjoy the process, not just the results. Surf Life Saving should be fun first. She believes that the best athletes are those who genuinely love what they do, because passion is what carries you through the tough training blocks and hard races.
I also strongly believes in listening to your body, and maintaining balance in your life. Don’t ignore when your body is asking for rest, because long-term health (mental and physical) is more important than one training session. Find joy outside of training so you always come back refreshed!
What do you think about on the start line?
I remind myself how lucky I am that I can live out my childhood dream.
Naomi, what has been a high and low in your surf sports journey?
High: Winning the Open Ironwoman at Aussies 2023.
Low: Having glandular fever and having to withdraw from competition in 2019.
Do you have any secret talents?
Hand Building Pottery. I can make a pretty good coffee mug or vase.
Do you have any pets?
No 🙁
