Bio
Electra Outram started her career in surf lifesaving when as a nipper in the Under 6’s. Fast-forward eleven years and she is already making her Nutri-Grain IronWoman debut at just 16 years old. A proven athlete in the Australian Ironwoman Youth competition, Outram, now 19, joins the Nutri-Grain Series for the third time overall in 20/21. When she isn’t training and competing, Outram is studying a Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) full-time and likes to hang out with her family and friends at the beach.
Electra, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
5 years old, I joined because my older brother was in nippers.
Who was your hero growing up in surf lifesaving?
Liz Pluimers and Hayley Bateup. Liz always had yellow equipment, which happened to be my favourite colour and Hayley was an awesome board paddler.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
It doesn’t matter how many times you fall. The only thing that matters is how many times you get up.
Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?
Keep going. Don’t give up on dreams.
What do you think about on the start line?
Nothing. I try to clear my mind and let muscle memory take over.
Electra, do you have any race day superstitions?
Arriving at the beach and starting my warm-up early.
How do you relax away from competition?
I read or hang out with my family at the beach.
Do you have any pets?
Not at the moment, but I did have a succession of pet chickens for 10 years.
