The Shaw and Partners Iron Series is returning to Newcastle Beach, NSW, for the opening races this 13-14 December.

EVENT FORMAT
Super Sprint
Super Sprint is three Iron races, with the third race commencing with a staggered start. Iron Athletes will accumulate points in Race 1 and 2, and depending how well and consistent they were, will be rewarded in Race 3. The final race will feature a handicapped start, with the Iron Athletes ranked first starting on ‘GO,’ and the remaining competitions then undertaking a handicap start in accordance to their ranking. The winner of Race 3 takes the most overall points for the Round.
Race 1 – Swim, Board, Ski
Race 2 – Board, Ski, Swim
Race 3 – Ski, Swim, Board
The Male and Female Iron Athletes will alternate between the Races.

Eliminator
Three back-to-back Iron races, with the bottom six finishers in each race eliminated. Iron Athletes must stay out of the red zone if they want to claim as many points as possible int he Eliminator Rounds, else they find themselves knocked our of the entire Shaw and Partners Iron Series. There’s no time to rest, every moment counts in the Eliminator!
Race 1 – Board, Swim, Ski (28 starters)
Race 2 – Swim, Ski, Board (22 starters)
Race 3 – Ski, Board, Swim (16 starters)
The Female Iron Athletes will complete all three of their Eliminator races before the Male Iron Athletes hit the beach.
The top 20 Iron Athletes after the two days of racing will proceed to the Maroubra races. All points acquired by athletes will be kept until the end of Super Sprint race at Miami on 31 January.

Shaw and Partners Iron Series Nipper Challenge
The first ever Shaw and Partners Iron Series Nipper Challenge will be held as a lead in to the Newcastle Super Sprint and Eliminator races.
Budding Ironman and Ironwoman competitors aged from U11s to U14s are invited to sign up and compete on the same arena as the elite Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes. U11 and U12 races will be held on Saturday, 13 December while U13 and U14 will compete on Sunday, 14 December.
Entries are to made via Liveheats, and are strictly capped at 40 per age group.
