Tayla Halliday exploded on to the IronWoman scene during the 2019/20 Iron Series, when she received her first call-up to join the in Round 3, despite being just 17 years old. Halliday featured in the elite competition for several season, however took the 2024/25 season off after feeling burnt out with the sport. But after six months away she knew she wasn’t done with surf lifesaving just yet, and soon earned her way back into the Shaw and Partners Iron Series through the Trial, presented by Race One Surf Craft. Her time away allowed her to commence a career in Finance, and focus on Bachelor of Business, Majoring in Finance.
Tayla, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
5 years old. I grew up doing surf life saving because my dad was heavily involved his whole life and I definitely take after him. I love doing the sport and I also love coaching the next generation.
Who was your hero growing up in surf lifesaving?
My dad, he always will be.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Learn to enjoy the process.
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners athletes?
Enjoy the journey.
What do you think about on the start line?
Controlling my breathing and trying to enjoy the moment.
Tayla, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?
Finishing on the podium in the 2022/2023 Iron Series is definitely a high. My low would have to be battling long COVID in 2023.
Do you have any race day superstitions?
I used to have a lot but I don’t anymore.
How do you relax away from competition?
I absolutely love cooking and going to the beach!
