Bio
Originally from the Central Coast of NSW, Corey Fletcher started his Ironman journey as a nipper at Copacabana SLSC. He found his footing as a beach sprinter, becoming a Junior NSW State Champion in the Beach Sprint and Beach Flags. In 2016, after finishing high school, Fletcher relocated to the Gold Coast and soon after made his Iron Series debut in 2017/18. Fletcher has since represented the Australian Life Saving Team three times, winning the Board race at the 2024 World Lifesaving Championships.
Corey, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?
6 years old at Copacabana SLSC on the Central Coast of NSW, I believe we were at the beach when I was really young and said to my parents I want to do that (looking at the other kids doing nippers) so the next year when I was old enough they signed me up.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Ali Day
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Chase your dreams and don’t give up.
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Series athletes?
Train hard, and don’t take easy options.
What do you think about on the start line?
I focus on getting a clean start and getting myself in a good position to set up the rest of the race.
Corey, what has been a high and low in your surf sports journey?
Having a few years in and out of the series with no consistency is a Low
and having made the open Australian team 3 times and entering into my 7th season as a professional ironman is definitely a High!
Do you have any race day superstitions?
Wouldn’t say superstitions but I like to keep things simple and not over do or think it.
Do you have a secret talent?
No secret talent at all!
