Bio
Kalani Ives, a proud Indigenous woman from the Bundjalung Nation, is set to make her professional Ironwoman series debut in the 20224/25 Shaw and Partners Iron Series. Victorious in the 2023/24 Next Gen competition, Ives will don the red lycra on surf sports’ grandest stage. She has recently made the move to Mermaid Beach AEME SLSC in her pursuit of Iron Glory, and outside of training and competition, she likes to stay close to the ocean and connect with nature.
Kalani, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving?
I was 8 years old when I started out at Yamba SLSC.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Courtney Hancock was always my favourite growing up.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
“Happy athlete will be the best athlete.”
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Series Athletes?
“Stay committed, work hard, and enjoy the process.”
What do you think about during a race?
I’m focusing on getting from Point A Point B.

I listen to music.
What do you think about on the startline?
“Should have gone to the toilet!”
