Shaw and Partners Iron Series

Race Formats

Each Race of Shaw and Partners Iron Series is designed to test our athletes to their limits.

Eliminator &Grand Eliminator

The Eliminator features three traditional Iron races with a twist – after each race, the final placing athletes will be eliminated.

With the field getting smaller and smaller each race, the Shaw and Partners Iron Series athletes must give it their all to ensure they are on the line for the final race.

The Eliminator will be held at Newcastle on 10 January, 2027.

Grand Eliminator

Same rules as a regular Eliminator, except now everything is on the line. Athletes must survive until the end and first in the Grand Eliminator will win the Shaw and Partners Iron Series.

The Grand Eliminator will be held on Sunday, February 7 2027, at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, QLD.

Super Sprint

Shaw and Partners Iron Series athletes face three traditional Iron races, and are rewarded for their performances in the first two. The first-placed finisher of the third race is the Super Sprint winner.

There is no elimination in the Super Sprint. Instead, the final race will feature a staggered start. Athletes start with a time delay based on their finishing positions in the earlier races. Those who performed well earlier in the day will get a head start on those who finished back in the pack and must overcome a delayed start to catch up!

Super Sprint will be held twice during the 2026/27 Shaw and Partners Iron Series; at Thirroul, NSW on 15 November, and at Surfers Paradise, QLD, on 6 February.

The Specialist

The Specialist rewards a Shaw and Partners Iron athlete’s skill in each of the surf sport disciplines.

There are five races; a soft sand run, a swim race, a board race, a ski race, and an Iron race. Athletes will bank points depending how they performed across the first four individual races. The final race will feature a staggered start, the more points an athlete has, the earlier they start last race.

The winner of the final iron race will be declared the Specialist winner. For the 2026/27 Shaw and Partners Iron Series, it will be held at Newcastle, NSW on January 9, 2027.

Enduro

The dreaded Enduro race.

Shaw and Partners Iron Series athletes will face a monster 40min Iron race, featuring three Board legs, three Swim legs, and three Ski legs. And if that wasn’t enough to test their endurance, the race kicks off with a 3-4min soft sand run.

The Enduro will be held in Wollongong on 14 November, 2026.

The Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold 25.6

This season the Shaw and Partners Iron Series athletes will be competing for points at the 2026 Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold 25.6.

The 25.6km course is a test of grit, endurance, and versatility. Participants face a 14km Ski, a 2km Swim, a 4km Board, a 3.1km final Run, with a relentless soft sand run transition between each.

The Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold 25.6 is also open to members of the public, so you have the chance to take on the same course as the Shaw and Partners Iron athletes!
