Bio
Auden Parish’s earliest memories of surf lifesaving are as a five-year-old at North Avoca SLSC, when at times he was afraid of larger waves. Nippers helped with his confidence in the surf, and at 13 years of age at Northcliffe SLSC, Parish commenced his journey through surf sports, training for Ironman competition just a year later, and has not looked back since, claiming a 3rd in the Open Male Board at the 2024 Worlds. Parish marked his first appearance at last year’s Iron Series with an impressive podium finish in Maroubra, a feat he will be looking to replicate at the 2024/25 Shaw and Partners Iron Series.
Auden, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?
I was 5 years old when I first got introduced to surf lifesaving. Mum put my two siblings and I into the sport so we could learn skills that could one day help us if we ever got stuck in a bad situation, and also to make interstate friendships and be part of the community giving back.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
I’ve always loved watching the Eckstein brothers and Ali Day growing up. Their sportsmanship and work ethic is something I value as an athlete.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
“Trust in the process and back yourself all the way.”
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?
Motivation gets you started but discipline keeps you going.
What do you think about during a race?
I tell myself to stay positive and that it’s not over yet.
Auden, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?
High: Getting a bronze in my first ever professional Iron Series
Low: I wouldn’t say I have any lows, I’ve had some tough moments but I make sure to learn a lot from them and am grateful for the experience.
Do you have any pets?
I have a cat named Loki and a fish named Gilmore.
Do you have a secret talent?
Yes, but it is still a secret…
