Gold Coast local Chelsea Wood local makes her Shaw and Partners Iron Series debute in 2025/26. Also a handy Aussie Rules player, Wood started to see results in Iron racing as a first year Mal competitor (U14s) when she started swim training. Flash forward to the 2025/26 season, and Wood entered the Shaw and Partners Iron Series after only her second attempt at the Trial, presented by Race One Surf Craft. When not competing and training, Wood is studying Civil Engineering and works as a Lifeguard.
Chelsea, what race format is your favourite?
Fav format would probably be the Specialist because it’s the only time in the Iron Series where you race individual legs. It kind of gives the craft specialists an opportunity to showcase their skills.
What is your best training hack?
Always give a spare pair of goggles to your handler, you never know when you’ll need them.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Don’t be a sheep, be a shepherd. It’s not always best to follow the pack, especially in tricky conditions.
Do you have a secret talent?
Swimming with a pull buoy.
