Bio
New Zealand athlete Jayden Murphy arrives in the Shaw and Partners Iron Series after an accomplished career across surf lifesaving and waterski racing. Representing New Zealand on the Junior Black Fins team at the 2022 World Championships in Italy, Murphy claimed victory in the Ski Race and finished second in the Ironman, before going on to win the New Zealand Open Ironman title in 2024. The 22-year-old, who works full-time as a cabinetmaker specialising in high-end residential homes, relocated to the Gold Coast for three months in preparation for the Shaw and Partners Iron Series Trials, presented by Race One Surf Craft. Away from competition, Murphy enjoys foiling and surfing, while continuing to compete in waterski racing in New Zealand.
Jayden, which race format is your favourite?
Specialist for me. Little bit longer, bit more to sink your teeth into and I always go a little bit better under fatigue.
What is your best training hack?
Always wear more layers than you need when you get on the water because you can always take them off!
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Always race your first Ironman leg as a individual race.
Do you have a secret talent?
I’m forklift certified.
