Bio
Gold Coast-born Kobi Daniel has had his sights set on competing in the Shaw and Partners Iron Series from a young age. Now, at just 17 years old, the North Burleigh athlete is set to realise that goal as he makes his Series debut. Daniel credits surf lifesaving with helping him develop his discipline, competitiveness, and teamwork, qualities that have helped him progress through the sport. Away from training and racing, Daniel is completing Year 11 while studying a Certificate II in Electrotechnology and completing a Certificate III in Hospitality. When he gets some downtime, there’s one thing he particularly enjoys: good food.
Kobi, which race format is your favourite?
Watching the Specialist growing up was always epic, seeing everyone’s best legs on display and then them backing it up with a full Iron at the end was even better.
What is the best thing about being a surf sports athlete?
I think the traveling and exploring new places as well as the people and friends you get to make, its really something extraordinary.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Two that have stuck are:
- Beggars cant be choosers.
- Pain is temporary. Victory lasts forever.
What is your top Iron Series memory so far?
Its only my first year in the series so I don’t have one just yet, although when I was a nipper & the Pros would give out toggs and rashies I managed to snag a few which was cool.
