Lily Finati made her debut in the 2023/22 Iron Series as one of the youngest competitors to make the Iron Series, coming in fresh out of high school. The young athlete has been racing since she was a nipper at Maroubra SLSC, finding success with multiple titles for North Bondi and The Australian Championships. Finati will once again line up at this season’s Shaw and Partners Iron Series, earning her spot next to her childhood idol, Georgia Fitzsimmons. Finati is currently studying a Bachelor of Education and works with children with disabilities.
Lily, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?
U6 because my family have always been very involved in the surf club and love the beach!
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
I looked up to Georgia Fitzsimmons (nee Miller) and loved that not only was she a great athlete but a lovely, happy person.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
“Be consistent and focus on the little 1 percenters.”
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?
Keep at it and be consistent results will come!!
What do you think about during a race?
Staying in the moment and not making any mistakes.
Lily, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?
High: Qualifying for the Iron Series when I was 17!
Low: I got sick with pericarditis and had to pull out.
Do you have any race day superstitions?
I love wearing a white ribbon in my hair.
What is your go-to meal before a carnival?
Spaghetti Bolognese and a potato bake.
