Bio
Oliver Monaghan has been part of Maroochydore SLSC since starting Nippers at just five years old, after moving to Australia from Exeter, England, with his family as a toddler. Developing a love of competition from an early age, Monaghan also enjoyed success in the pool as a Queensland representative and national age swimmer, while also competing in rugby union and AFL throughout his school years. Away from surf sports, the Monaghan recently completed his electrical apprenticeship and now runs his own electrical business on the Sunshine Coast. When he’s not working or training, Monaghan enjoys surfing, watching the footy, and spending time at the beach with friends.
Olly, which race format is your favourite?
I have only done a few formats in the Next Gen racing, but from those I think the Specialist. You get to race each discipline separately and it ultimately decides where you set off for the last Iron, which is a pretty cool challenge.
Do you have any training hacks?
Pre training activation, something I’m quite new too but have found a huge benefit.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
On the other side of fear is where the magic happens.
Do you have a secret talent?
Can cook boiled eggs to perfection with no timer.
