Bio
Growing up in Victoria, Sean Rielly was, and still is, a passionate AFL fan. Rielly spent all his time outside of school playing at the beach, and he knew from about 14 years old that he wanted to pursue a profession in the ocean. After joining Torquay SLSC for fitness and ocean skills to improve his surfing, Sean moved to the Gold Coast in 2019 to pursue his goals in surf sports. Since then, he earned re-qualification in the Shaw and Partners Iron Series and finished second in the 2026 Australian Open Ironman. Rielly is currently studying teaching, and is a Drone Operator for Surf Life Saving Queensland.
Sean, which race format is your favourite?
Probably the Eliminator, I’m normally not the best for a one-off Iron, takes me a bit to get going sometimes, and the longer I go the better I get. I like to hurt and I’m most comfortable at that point.
What is your race day routine?
Wake up around 6:30am, have a bit of a roll, a stretch and an Up And Go, go down to the local pool, swim till I feel good, go home have a nap, fuel, and and do my race day warm up.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Consistency is key and never settle.
Do you have a secret talent?
I can put away a lot of sushi rolls.
