Tayla Halliday exploded on to the IronWoman scene during the 2019/20 Nutri-Grain Series. Halliday received her first call-up to join the Nutri-Grain Series in Round 3 2019/2020, despite being just 17 years old. Over the past few seasons Halliday has developed in a formidable IronWoman, earning requalification into the Nutri-Grain Series and taking out the 2022 Aussies U19 Ironwoman race. Being a part of branch, state and national teams – Halliday loves training and pushing her comfort zone because she believes that is where greatness happens. She loves the ocean and considers herself very lucky to be able to train every day.
Tayla, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
5 years old. My dad was involved since a young age as well. He wanted me to do Nippers to learn surf awareness.
Who was your hero growing up in surf lifesaving?
I looked up to Shannon Eckstein a lot when I was growing up and now I definitely have to say Lana Rogers. She isn’t just a great athlete, but also a great person.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Focus on what you can control.
Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?
Don’t forget to enjoy the process.
What do you think about on the start line?
Controlling my breathing and trying to enjoy the moment.
Tayla, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?
High: 4th place in Round 3 in the last Nutri-Grain Series.
Low: Aussies 2019 being cancelled due to COVID-19 was a pretty tough time.
Do you have any race day superstitions?
I used to have a lot but I don’t anymore.
How do you relax away from competition?
I absolutely love cooking and going to the beach!
