Bio

Texas Dixon is a surf lifesaver at Burleigh Heads SLSC. Growing up, Tex embraced his sporty side, playing AFL, swimming, running, and enjoying surf lifesaving. In fact, he loved it so much he decided to pursue surf sports to see how far he could take it. It was quickly apparent he could take it very far, claiming big personal goals such as winning an Australian Board Title and making an Australian Iron final as the youngest in the field. All impressive achievements, but for Tex, his greatest achievements are in the team’s races. He has a heavy training schedule, with 3 to 4 sessions every day. Outside of training and racing Tex enjoys fantasy sports, making rap music, and spending time with his mates.

Texas, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?

I got into life saving as my dad was heavily involved down at Half Moon Bay. I started in U10’s and loved it ever since.

Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?

Matt Poole was my favourite with his rockstar/animal like way of racing where he puts it all out there.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

My Dad always tells me to just go out there and do my thing.

Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?

It may take longer than what you want but if you just keep sticking at it and keep grinding away, you’ll get there and it will be worth it more when you get there.

What do you think about during a race?

My mind goes so many places during race but mostly just trying to think about the few meters in front of me.

Lana, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?

There’s been way too many lows but for the last 6 years I’ve turned up to the trials and had a shocker in the first race and that has been my weekend over but for me the biggest high for me as an Ironman was making it this year at the trials but winning and Australian board title is my biggest achievement to date.

How do you relax away from competition?

Just chilling out on my own or with my mates and making my own rap music.

Do you have a secret talent?

I am a mean rapper.
