Bio
Texas Dixon is a surf lifesaver at Burleigh Heads SLSC. Growing up, Tex embraced his sporty side, playing AFL, swimming, running, and enjoying surf lifesaving. In fact, he loved it so much he decided to pursue surf sports to see how far he could take it. It was quickly apparent he could take it very far, claiming big personal goals such as winning an Australian Board Title and making an Australian Iron final as the youngest in the field. When not training, Tex is studying Architecture at university.
Texas, how old were you when youstarted surf lifesaving and why?
I was 10 years old when I started, I joined a surf club because my Dad used to race for them.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Growing up I loved watching the likes of Matt Poole and Ali Day.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Let go of all fears of the potential outcomes and the uncontrollables, just be present in the moment, and focus on what you can do.
Your advice for aspiring Shaw and Partners Iron Athletes?
Stick at it, it’s as simple as that! If you just work hard and work on your skills, everything will take care of itself.
What do you think about during a race?
My mind goes so many places during race but mostly just trying to think about the few meters in front of me.
Texas, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?
Obviously qualifying for my first Shaw and Partners Iron Series and making Australian iron finals have been big highs, but getting knocked in heats for majority of my career so far and not getting close to the finals day at the trials have been some some the lows.
How do you relax away from competition?
Just chilling out on my own or with my mates and making my own rap music.
Do you have a secret talent?
I can rap and play the guitar.
