Lana Rogers has stamped her dominance in the 2021 Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series, taking back to back rounds of the Series to put her out in front on the leaderboard.

Winning today’s second round at Kingscliff, Rogers won two of the three sprint Ironwoman races, including the all important final, while former Nutri-Grain IronWoman Georgia Miller bounced back to finish second place after a disappointing eighth place yesterday.

Leading into the final Ironwoman the top five of Rogers, Miller, Harriett Brown, Lizzie Wellborn and Danielle McKenzie didn’t have much separating them, with windy conditions today delivering a small shorey that was proving a little tricky for the back of the pack.

With the final a staggered start based on results on the first two races, Rogers had two second lead on Miller and Brown, with Wellborn followed by MacKenzie following behind.

Rogers led throughout but Miller worked her transitions beautiful to close the gap, but it was enough to catch the defending champion.

“That felt unreal.  The third one I was a little concerned about, I thought the girls were conserving energy a little bit in those first two races.

“I didn’t know where Georgia (Miller) was in that last board leg, but I got that little wave at the end and it paid off,” she said.

After the 40minute endurance Ironwoman yesterday, the Ironwomen backed it up today with three sprint races, with Rogers happy with her recovery.

“It was not too bad (recovery), I did what I could with an ice bath and magnesium bath, so I felt okay going into it (the race). I was a little bit heavy in the legs but I expected that so we will see what tomorrow brings.

“It was tricky going out in that wind today, especially on the ski, I accidentally bumped into Georgia with my ski, I got caught in the wind.  But that’s going to happen.

“It’s quick racing out there so you have to be ready for anything,” said Rogers.

The Nutri-Grain IronWoman racing returns tomorrow, Sunday 14 February, with the third round Survival – three separate, 12-minute long Iron races starting with 20 competitors, with the last six finishers in each race eliminated, until eight are left in the final race. There is a thrilling 3-minute countdown between each race.

Tune in on Sunday 14 February 2021, 12-2pm on 9GO!
