Bio
Charlie Brooks has been involved with surf lifesaving and Newport SLSC since he was 5 years old. From day one he has loved surf sports and the life-long friendships it brings. This season will be his third appearance in the iconic Nutri-Grain togs, after making his debut back in 2019/20. While not training, Brooks finds important life balance in his full time job at a private bank.
Charlie, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving?
5 years old, I started with nippers at Newport surf club.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Zane Holmes.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
Everyone wants to be successful until they see what it actually takes.
Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?
Swimming wins you races.
What do you think about during a race?
Negotiating the surf.
Charlie, what has been a high IronMan journey?
Winning the Open Board Relay at Aussies in 2021 and winning the world Youth Ironman in 2017 would be my highlights.
Do you have a secret talent?
I can do the Rubik’s Cube in under 3 minutes.
