Mitch Morris had a standout performance in the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain Next Gen Series which booked himself a spot in this year’s Nutri-Grain Series. Growing up in Newcastle and starting out at Swansea-Belmont SLSC, Morris chased his IronMan dreams to Newport SLSC and now to Northcliffe SLSC. He now lines up in the red Next-Gen lycra alongside his older brother Zach, with goals of requalifying for many more Nutri-Grain Series. When not on beach, Morris works full time as a plumber.
Mitch, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?
Started surf lifesaving in under 6s because I always loved the ocean as a young kid.
Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?
Matt Poole.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
“Never look back,” from Mum and Dad
Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?
Enjoy training and racing with your mates, make sure your always having fun.
What do you think about on the start line?
I’m thinking about the best line in.
Mitch, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?
High is definitely qualifying for this seasons Nutri-Grain Series.
Low: Luckily I haven’t had many lows.
Who is your greatest competition in the Nutri-Grain Series?
Everyone, but not the guy in number 9! (brother Zach)
Do you have any pets?
Yes, we have a dog named Reef.
