Bio

Piper started nippers in U6 at Manly LSC where she fell in love with the sport. She made the move to Newport SLSC in U19 to help chase her dream of becoming a Nutri-Grain IronWoman. Harrison admits that she hasn’t always been the strongest competitor, but is always striving to improve with a good work ethic at training. Outside of surf sports, Harrison is studying a Bachelor of Law and Communications (Journalism) at UTS, and works casually as a learn to swim teacher.

Piper, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?

Started surf life saving at the age of 5. I grew up near the coast and my parents wanted me to be comfortable at the beach.

Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?

Candice Falzon (now Warner) was competing for Manly when I was a little nipper there. I looked up to her a lot and went to all the NSW Series rounds to cheer her on.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

“Don’t panic!”
I have been working a lot on the mental game of racing and in our sport there’s a lot that can go wrong so I have been learning to keep my head and bounce back quick.

Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?

Trust the process! Keep working hard and believe in yourself and you will make your dreams come true.

What do you think about on the start line?

Nailing my start. I have learnt to focus on the process not the result.

Piper, what has been a high and low in your IronWoman journey?

Making the series is definitely the high! It has been my dream since I was little. I was close last year and ended up missing out which felt like a low but made me hungrier to get better and be ready for this year.

Do you have any race day superstitions?

Not really. I do usually eat the same thing for breakfast every time though!

Do you have a secret talent?

My transitions!! I used to do athletics when I was younger and love to use my legs to make up some ground in the transitions.
