Bio

Originally from Tauranga, New Zealand, Tom Scott decided to move to Australian in 2021 to pursue his IronMan dreams. He landed at Northcliffe on the Gold Coast, and now trains alongside fellow kiwi Nutri-Grain IronMan Joe Collins and IronWomen Danielle McKenzie and Olivia Corrin. Scott is fresh off a strong Trial Round, which saw him catapulted into the Elite Nutri-Grain Series just a year after arriving in the country. When he’s not training, Scott has a passion for golfing and eating.

Tom, how old were you when you started surf lifesaving and why?

I was 5 when my parents signed me up for nippers at Omanu Surf Club. Initially it was for water safety but I quickly fell in love with the sport and it became for my enjoyment more than anything.

Who was your hero growing up in and out of surf lifesaving?

I didn’t look up to one specific Ironman. It was awesome growing up though and watching Max Beattie and Cory Taylor represent New Zealand on the Nutri-Grain Seires for so long.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

Plenty of people have given me good advice over the years but just focusing on your own race and taking each leg as it comes has probably been the best yet along with just enjoy the racing.

Your advice for aspiring Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain athletes?

Just keep grinding and getting better every year and don’t worry about how others are training or racing because all the matters is that you’re getting better and enjoying the process.

What do you think about during a race?

Nailing whatever I’m doing at that moment.

Tom, what has been a high and low in your IronMan journey?

High: Would probably be racing in the Aussie Ironman final last year.

Low: Would be not making my u19 Ironman heat at NZ nationals. That really fired me up.

Do you have any race day superstitions?

Nah I’m pretty random each competition.

Do you have a secret talent?

I can eat a lot.
