Defending Nutri-Grain IronMan Champion Ali Day has pulled out of today’s Round 5 of the Nutri-Grain Series due to a virus.

It’s a huge blow for Day, who currently sits second on the Nutri-Grain Series ladder and had every chance of claiming his third consecutive Nutri-Grain IronMan Series crown.

Round 5 of the Nutri-Grain IronMan Series is due to get underway in under two hours at Kurrawa Beach on the Gold Coast, with young gun Will Savage from Day’s Surfers Paradise club, a last minute call up.

The news broke just hours before competition is due to start and will undoubtedly give current Nutri-Grain IronMan Series leader Ben Carberry a huge boost coming into the final two rounds. Carberry, a full time carpenter and part time Ironman, currently sits on top of the ladder with a three point lead over Day and seven point lead over third place Matt Bevilacqua.

Day hasn’t yet confirmed whether he’ll race in Sunday’s sixth and final round, but today’s withdrawal has all but ended his chances of claiming back to back Nutri-Grain IronMan Series crowns.

All the action from the 2022 Nutri-Grain IronMan & IronWoman Series will be shown live across SBS and Fox Sports.
