Defending champion Harriet Brown (Northcliffe) has been forced to withdraw from this weekend’s middle rounds of the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series at Maroubra, NSW.

Brown, 32, injured her calf this week with medical advice suggesting that further damage could be sustained if she raced this weekend.

“Unfortunately, I sustained a minor calf tear early this week whilst running on the grass track,” said Brown. “It is something I do regularly, it was just part of normal training for me so it is just really unfortunate and I am hoping it will only sideline me from racing this weekend.

“Of course I really wanted to race this weekend but I was advised that if I did, I would be in a great amount of pain and would risk further damage that could keep me out for a longer period of time so I will just have to focus on my recovery and watch this weekend,” added Brown.

Fellow Ironwoman competitor Aly Bull (Alexandra Headland) has also withdrawn from this weekend due to an elbow injury with Bull also hoping to be back competing in a short time-frame.

Brown and Bull have been replaced by Bella Williams (Northcliffe) and Kirstie Hardstaff (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park) for this weekend’s Rounds 3 and 4 of the Nutri-Grain Series.

Georgia Miller (Northcliffe – 38), Lizzie Welborn (Newport – 37) and Tiarnee Massie (Maroochydore – 31) lead the overall point score heading into this weekend following the opening two rounds at Manly Beach, NSW last month. Brown currently sits in equal fourth position on 28 points and Bull is currently in 17th position on 9 points.

The 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series will be broadcast LIVE on SBS and Fox Sports in Australia and live on Sky Sports in New Zealand.
