Last season’s podium finisher Jy Timperley (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park) has officially been ruled out for the entire 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronMan Series and will be replaced by rising Sydney teenager Conner Maggs (Newport).

Timperley, 23, injured his ankle prior to the opening of the Series in December and ruled himself out of the opening weekend of racing, medical advice has since confirmed that Timperley will require surgery and has therefore withdrawn from the 2022/2023 Series.

“I’ve never put so much work and time into an off season and felt so much improvement in my skills and fitness, so to put it simply, I’m absolutely heart broken,” Timperley said.

“But I’m looking forward to using this time to get my injury 100% better, so I can back to full health and to the level that I know I can race at.

“I’m so keen to be able to watch Rounds 3 and 4 live on SBS and to attend Rounds 5 and 6 at Kurrawa to watch some epic round racing in the flesh,” added Timperley.

Maggs, 17, has officially been confirmed as the replacement athlete for Jy Timperley in the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronMan Series having already replaced Timperley for the opening rounds at Manly in December.

“It feels amazing to be able to compete with some of the best athletes in the world, especially some of my childhood idols who I’ve looked up to throughout my junior ages and even still to this day,” Maggs said.

“I feel sorry for Jy, I know how much effort it takes to get to this level and for him to have to make the decision to pull out is terrible.

“Hopefully he’ll be bigger and better next season and no doubt he’ll be back,” added Maggs.

The 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series will be broadcast LIVE on SBS and Fox Sports in Australian and live on Sky Sports in New Zealand.
