Over 130 males and female put their foot on the line at Tugun Beach on the Gold Coast in attempt to qualify for the 18 remaining places in the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain Iron Series.
Over 80 males and 45 females competed across three different iron races with the Top 20 competitors across both categories qualifying for tomorrow’s final trial day for the Nutri-Grain Series.
In the male event, Cooper Williams (Alexandra Headland), Jay Furniss (Cronulla) and Beau Wheeler (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park) were the top three qualifies while Tiarnee Massie (Maroochydore), Lily O’Sullivan (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park) and Naomi Scott (Northcliffe) were the top three female qualifiers.
Of the 20 men who have earned their place to compete on Sunday, seven athletes including: Williams, Furniss, Cory Taylor (Northcliff), Adam Palmer (Maroochydore), TJ Hendy (Surfers Paradise), Corey Fletcher (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park) and Hayden Cotter (Maroochydore) have already competed in the Series before.
Nine of the womens field for Sunday have competed in the Kellogg Nutri-Grain IronWoman Series before including Massie, O’Sullivan, Scott, Lizzie Welborn (Newport), Lucy Derbyshire (Surfers Paradise), Emily Doyle (Northcliffe), Emma Woods (Alexandra Headland), Electra Outram (Noosa) and Carla Papac (Noosa).
Rising stars such as Noah Steiner (Wanda), Connor Maggs (Newport), Jake Morris (Northcliffe), Ryley Harland (Northcliffe), Jasmine Raywood (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park), Ruby Meehan (Northcliffe), Piper Harrison (Newport), and Dominque Stitt (Maroochodore) have all giving themselves a chance to mix it with their more experienced competitors.
The 20 male and female competitors will undertake the same three iron races on Sunday – shorter traditional, longer traditional and M-Shape with those ranked in the top seven, earning a place in the 2022/23 Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman Series.
After this weekend’s competition there will still be two male and two female places on offer as “Wild Card” qualifiers.
