Tugan local Ky Kinsela and New Zealand ironwoman Olivia Corrin (Northcliffe) headline the 14 qualifiers for the 2023/24 Nutri-Grain Iron Series held on the Gold Coast this weekend.

Kinsela on his home beach used all his local knowledge to dominate the Mens’ racing whilst Corrin was the most consistent female competitor in the tricky two-foot swell at Tugan Beach.

Kinsela said he was excited to be back in the Nutri-Grain Iron Series and believes a relaxed approach to his racing helped.

“I am very surprised, but excited,” said Kinsela about being back in the Nutri-Grain Iron Series. “I was honestly just trying to enjoy it this weekend. It was just about relaxing and seeing what happened.

“This field is insane I wouldn’t be surprised if they told me this was the Nutri-Grain Iron Series, all the boys are that good, it is just excellent preparation.”

Corrin, the New Zealand native who lives and trains on the Gold Coast, said she can’t wait for the Nutri-Grain Iron Series to begin.

“It is so exciting, I love racing out there, racing irons and the testing conditions made it so much fun,” she said. “I knew it was going to be a hard weekend, the goal was to make Sunday and then have a good day, I have managed to do that so I am very happy.

“It is going to be an awesome Series, it is an extra step-up racing the best girls in the world and with the next generation coming through as well it is going to be really exciting, they are pushing us to better ourselves so it is going to be super-fast racing,” added Corrin.

Kinsela will be joined by Jackson Borg (Newport), Will Savage (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park), Kendrick Louis (Manly), Charlie Brooks (Newport), Ryley Harland (Northcliffe) and Tanyn Lyndon (Kurrawa) who also earned their place in the 2023/24 line-up.

Joining Corrin in the Women’s event is Electra Outram (Sunshine Beach), Naomi Scott (Northcliffe), Piper Harrison (Newport), Jasmine Rayward (Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park), Emma Woods (Alexandra Headland) and Emily Doyle (Northcliffe)
